Hello!
I was very excited when I've read about QZoom on Softpedia, but when I tested this app I was very surprised: it doesn't behave as I expected at all. As it is now, it is very similar to ZoomIt from Sysinternals.
What I was expecting is this: when in "zoomed" mode, releasing the key trigger (ctrl, shift etc) would allow me to still use the applications like before zooming. For example if I zoom in explorer window I'll still be able to select files, move them etc. I guess this is very hard to accomplish.
Don't get me wrong! I am not criticizing QZoom! This is a very good application and does a good job. I think I was expecting too much.
Thank you!
Dear joby_toss
thank you for the comment.
I will change key routine like mouse scroll zoom from windows hotkey api.
The following request has the demand by a Japanese version.(etc ESC key other application conflicts)
Please wait even for the upgrade.
thank you
'Just tested version 1.5e: much better. Thank you very much!
A minor issue: could it be possible to add an option to stop moving along with the mouse cursor when in zoomed mode? Maybe assign an hotkey for this? And maybe do some screen annotations while in "freezed zoomed mode" (like freehand drawing)?
Another issue: I have one transparent PowerPro sidebar on my desktop that does not appear when in zoomed mode. Is this normal? I think I can do a video screen recording to help you see what I mean, if you need it.
!
Edit: done. Links here: http://rapidshare.com/files/290580308/QZoom_AlphaChannel_Capture.avi.html or http://www.mediafire.com/?twmq4ytqdqg . Very useful enhancement for CamStudio recording
Another thing: could you confirm the full portability? I'm pretty sure QZoom does not use the Registry and also does not create files outside its own folder if the file "setting.ini" is present. Does it use .Net Framework?
It is a good candidate for the portablefreeware.com database (I'm going to submit this app there if you don't mind – I think it will increase the popularity of QZoom).
Thanks again!
Dear joby_toss
Thank you for the comment.
About 1
It is possible to stop it simply. However, it is not possible to operate it though it stops.
There are a lot of requests from the QZoom user. Therefore, a good idea is considered.
About 2
sorry. WS_EX_TRANSPARENT style and directx overlay window (like Windows Media Player) cannot zoome with Windows XP
because XP does not support Windows Magnification API. Vista or lator is possible.
About 3
> could you confirm the full portability?
yes. full support potability like USB memory.
It prepared it.

>I'm pretty sure QZoom does not use the Registry and also does not create files outside its own folder if the file "setting.ini" is present.
yes all.
QZoom reads setting.ini in the following order.
1. its own folder
2. %appdata%\QZoom\setting.ini
QZoom does not use .Net Framework and any lantime. exe only run.
please add to portablefreeware.com database!
QZoom is software popular in Japan. I think that it wants a person all over the world to use it.
Thank you.
awesome!

Dear Mira96,
Thank you very much for your efforts.
Unfortunately, I'm sad to inform you that QZoom v1.5 does not work on my system. When I try to zoom, the screen just goes blank (black) and I can see the mouse pointer moving but nothing else. When I press ESC to go back, everything returns to normal.
My system is: Windows 7 x64, nVidia 8600GTm driver v186.81

sorry. It has not had Windows7 yet.

Hi Mira96!
Thanks for sharing this nice little app.
Though I sum myself to the list of people that would like to get a defined zoomed area, and work on it without it moving when move the mouse cursor, I thank it would add a lot in usability of apps.
Maybe it would also cool to be able to mark an area dragging the mouse and some modifier key to choose the area to zoom, the another modifier would move the same size of area to another part of the screen (like it is now without any modifer) and yet another to zoom within the zoom, and maybe some markers to return to your previous custom-sized areas.
Maybe I'm letting myself to get too carried away, so anyway I appreciate you sharing your effort
Cheers

Hi, me again
Another observation that I forgot to mention is that the unit of measuring perhaps is too big! I find myself that between 1x and 2x zoom, there is a huge difference, is there a way that it could be fine tuned a little bit? like in increments of 0.25x or similar?
Thanks again and cheers!
Hello there
First, I would like to say that QZoom is a great software. My girlfriend has a visual impariment and I don't really like the software she uses right now. But she can't use QZoom because the way it follows the cursor is making her dizzy. Could you possibly make it so that when you reach the border of the zoomed area with the cursor the zoomed area would move accordingly?
What I mean is, that the zoomed image would be still and when the cursor would touch the left border of the zoomed area, the zoomead area would shift to the left, if possible. The same for the other sides.
I hope I make myself clear. I think it would be really easy for you to do, since it doesn't seem to alter the functionality of the software much. Maybe you could toggle this in the menu – follow cursor / zoomed area – or something like that, I dunno.
I think QZoom would be even better with this little touch.
Best regards and good luck with your other work.
QZoom doesn't work at 2560 x 1600 resolution on Vista 64bit for me. Any lower resolution works great though…
Hello,
). QZoom is exactly right tool for it already.
I would like to thank you for QZoom.
I'm using it for zooming during screencapturing. I like to capture whole screen, zoom for details and then resize the video for reasonable resolution (good result with Screencast-O-Matic – with zooming it looks like Camtasia
If I could ask for an improvement of two things, it would be (and was already mentioned):
1) option for stop moving the zoomed area – so you are focused in one place and can use mouse without mowing the area. There should be two possibilities a) shortcut for locking area position and b) move the area only if cursou is near its border.
2) Resize the cursor
… and other two small things …
zoom level shortcut (I use de-facto just 1,2,4:1)
zoom to app window – if you eg. alt+click on a caption bar of window, qzoom change its magnificence level to see the app visible part, of course according to aspect ratio … but these are just an ideas … the stop moving thing would be great!
Thanks a lot for what you done!!!
Thanks for that useful and smoth working app
Please consider options for use when away from keyboard computer, example: activate zoom by mouse only "right-click mouse + scroll wheel mouse up, down" to zoom in-out without using keyboard.
If that’s actually an option, don't work for me like that.
I must add some modifier like "crtl or alt or shft + scroll wheel mouse up, down" to zoom.
Im on Vista Home Premium.
Best regards! Thanks

Hello! Me again!
Any news on the 64bit version?
I'm using now Win7x64 and I miss QZoom sooooo much!
Thank you!
Hi,
I am wondering if you consider any further versions of qzoom?
If so, are you planning to add the feature for stop/start following the cursor?
Let us know.
Thanks again.
Hi!
An option for stop moving the zoomed area, that is the great feature i think mostly people would love!!
And you can find it explained here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f6iqEWYSNg on 1:30 begins!
thanks for this great app
unfortunately it doesn't work with my synaptics touchpad so i can't use the osx-like ctrl-scroll up/down combo but i can live with it
Thanks for this great app!
I need a new feature: show to the user when click with the mouse (like showmouse or camtasia studio softwares). When clicking the mouse, the pragram drawing circles/rectangles/cross round the mouse cursor. It’s very usefull, when I create a real-time presentation on projektor, because the viewers know where and when clicked with the mouse.
Thank you!
is this project still alive?
Hello! I love the software, thank you!
Is there a way to remove the "QZoom x 2.00" text that appears on the top right corner when you zoom? something I can change in the ini file?
Oh, and is there a way to modify the update interval? The screen update interval.
Mira96
Thank you so much for developing this program. I've installed it and Dragonifer for my father who has Macular Degeneration and it has helped tremendously for him to be able to zoom into the screen. Some full featured programs that do primarily the same thing are outrageously expensive and unaffordable, so QZoom is a blessing. I've now upgraded my dad’s computer to Windows 7 x64 and QZoom no longer functions. Although the built-in zoom is better than prevoius editions, it’s just not as good as QZoom. I hope development continues on this little gem of a program.
Dear Paul K
please test.

I don't have Win64 OS, so I can't test.
I guess follow file not found.

Hello,
thank you for the program.
Is it possible to add feature that the screen moving with cursor is switched on/off by ctrl or any key … or moving while the key is pressed?
It would be useful
Thank you
Mira96! WOW! Thanks for working on this!
Yes, your x64 edition works, but frankly not as "smoothly" as the x86 edition worked on x86Vista/XP.
My second screen goes black when the primary screen is zoomed, and the cursor is moved across to the second screen. The primary screen momentarily returns to zero magnification until the mouse is moved back to the primary screen where magnification returns. The magnification via scroll wheel seems to "catch up" and exceed how much magnification was intended to be applied via scroll wheel, but it works, and it will still be of tremendous help to those with "low vision."
Conditions of the test environment:
x64 Windows 7 Ultimate with Aero turned on
ATI HD5750 Video card & ATI drivers
Core I7-940 system with 8GB of ram & SSD 160GB HD.
The system I am building for my father has similar specs (Core I7 4GB ram, lesser ATI HD video card, one screen) and the test results are about the same.
It does not work very well with a mirror video driver (like when using LogMeIN for remote support)… response becomes extremely slow when zoomed.
The previous v1.5 x86 edition, when used in the Win 7 x64 environment did some odd things like zooming the whole screen in one notch via the scroll wheel, then simply zooming in and out on the size of the icons on the screen (with the scroll wheel) rather than the whole screen. The x64 edition seems to solve this problem.
These are all minor bugs. The major functionality is there! Thank you so much for publishing the x64 edition for testing. As is it will be of tremendous help to my father and I'm sure many others! Let me know if I can help further.
One more report:
With Aero turned off zooming is quite a bit slower and has the same issues the x86 edition does. (Zooming by the scroll wheel only zooms the screen a little -one level- and thereafter only changes the size of the icons on the desktop.) The second screen does not go black when moving the mouse to it, but whatever is on it dissapears and the primary screen becomes mirrored on the secondary screen. When the mouse returns to the primary screen, whatever was on the secondary screen returns….
Paul K.
sorry.
QZoom_v15e_64_test.zip is x86 + static link magnification.lib version Accurately.
I should do full 64 bit compile for work 64bit video driver.
I am investigating the 64bit compile with Visual Studio 2005.

thanks request.
For Win7 is better to use ZoomIt.
Qzoom is great for Win XP.

Hi,
QZoom is really a very useful program, but it would be a great improvement if you could set an option to stop the window from moving with the cursor, or set the window to move only when the cursor hits the border.
It would be perfect if you could do that. Thank you indeed.
Please, is it possible to add the feature requested above (moving just when cursor hits the border)? It would be really great enhancement.
Thank you.
The 'Cancel' option with Esc set is too greedy. It 'eats' all Esc presses in other apps so that when browsing in Opera, for example, pressing Esc no longer aborts downloading of large web-pages or downloads. Basically Qzoom breaks functionality of the Esc key for other programs even when not zoomed in.
can you add right-click or left-click as modifier for mouse zoom because sometimes I only use mouse when browsing and don't wanna use both hands for zoom.
Ex.: Left-click+ScrollUp = ZoomIn
